How to use the US paycheck calculator

  1. Enter your gross annual salary. This is your pay before tax, as written in your offer letter or contract.
  2. Choose your filing status and state. Filing status changes the standard deduction and tax brackets. The state field adds an approximate state income tax.
  3. Pick your pay frequency. Weekly, biweekly, semimonthly or monthly only changes how the yearly total is split into checks.
  4. Add pre-tax deductions if you have them, such as a traditional 401(k) or health insurance paid through work. The results update as soon as you change a field.

Worked example

A single worker in Texas earning $60,000 and paid biweekly pays about $5,020 in federal income tax and $4,590 in Social Security and Medicare for 2026. That leaves about $50,390 a year, or $1,938.08 per paycheck. To see how each step works, read how paycheck taxes work.

What the calculator includes

It uses the 2026 federal brackets and standard deduction announced by the IRS, Social Security (6.2% up to $184,500), Medicare (1.45%, plus 0.9% above $200,000) and an approximate state tax. It does not include local taxes, credits, a second job or other income, so treat the result as an estimate and compare it with your pay stub.
