PayTakeHome is an independent website that explains how salary, hourly pay and payroll taxes work in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom, and offers free estimators so people can see roughly what lands in their bank account.

Why the site exists

Offer letters quote gross salary, but rent and groceries are paid from net pay. Payroll rules are spread across several government websites and are hard to compare. PayTakeHome puts the basics in plain English with worked examples.

How the numbers are built

Calculators use published rates and thresholds from the IRS, Canada Revenue Agency and HMRC / Scottish Government. Assumptions and known simplifications are listed on the methodology page and sources are on the sources page. Our editorial policy explains how content is reviewed and corrected.
